Rumbling pot

The rumbling pot consist of an earthware pot, covered with a bladder or (in our case0 a cow's hide. In the bladder a small stick is attached. By rubbing the stick with a wet leather the stick and the attached bladder start tot tremble. Inside the pot a ronking sound arises, which gives the instrument his name.

Until the 20th century the rumbling pot was used to accompagny the singing, walking from door tot door at Epiphany, Shrove Tuesday and St. Marten (11th of November). To us the rumbling pot with all it's possibilities is the acoustic version of the rhythmbox.
